All About the Attitude - WET River Trips

No matter what you do in life, it all boils down to your attitude. A sour attitude with a big fat chip on the shoulder is a proven ground for a sad life of bitterness and dour relationships. An attitude born in enthusiasm, wide-eyed thirst for the unknown and a smile from ear to ear is proven to be a recipe for a happy life and fulfilling life.

WET River Trips March 19 - 20, 2011

Last weekend, we had those guests that come into life's hardships with a smile and a reverence for all things good. The flows were high... beyond 5,000 cfs. The rain came pouring down and the wind blew hard. But, the entire crew and the guests were pumped up and paid their dues to Mother Nature. And, Mom rewarded them all with an incredible day of
whitewater rafting in the solitude of the river canyon.

Together, they were celebrating their best buddy's upcoming wedding nuptials. A group of old friends getting together for a memorable time on the river while challenging themselves to a taste of adventure in the outdoors. They were celebrating life and all the good things that go with a good life... friends, food, nature and adventure. A whitewater rafting trip to remember their last bachelor days together.

The accolades came in on Monday from the
bachelor group. They had great things to say...

"
Just wanted to send a follow up email to our trip this past weekend... We spent 2 nights and 2 days, surviving the elements of wind and rain, and conquering the high water... We all had an awesome time and will have plenty of memories to share for a long time. Our bachelor, J., especially had a good time. I wanted to give a special thanks to our guides Justin and Steve... We could not have asked for better guides to introduce us to whitewater rapids. These guys are the best and deserve some recognition! From cooking up our meals, to guiding us on the river, and just plain showing us a good time, Steve and Justin did a fantastic job. We hope to organize another trip during the summer, and will definitely recommend WET to all our friends. Many thanks again!

North Fork American - March 4, 2011

Well, W.E.T. started with quite a bang last weekend. The day was sunny, blue skies and the people were great. A couple from the local area, some trainee guides and guests from past trips were all there to start the official first day on the river.

There was a relaxed feeling about that day, too. No stressful late arrivals or surprise add-ons at the last minute. Everyone was prepared and ready to roll onto the Class 4+ whitewater on the North Fork American. Chamberlain Falls is the big rapid there and most had seen it before, so the day was like a reunion of W.E.T., the guides and the guest all paying homage to this most wonderful river trip.

Big Poppah was there, too with a big smile as he waved off the crew as they snaked down the river bobbing and drifting into the big rapids ahead. 2011 rafting season is here, and it seems we just put the last river season to sleep in a blanket of paperwork and file folders.

Flowers are blooming, red bud is starting it's color change to magenta and chrome yellow daffodils are starting to poke their heads out of the ground. Spring in California! Nothing is better than that... absolutely nothing!

North Fork American starts March 2011

On my way down Hwy 80 after a day of snowboarding to enjoy the fresh powder of "Snowmagedon" (the latest and most amazing snow storm in a decade that dropped 2 feet of snow at 3,000 ft. and over 10 ft. on the Sierra summit), I drove down to the Iowa Hill bridge to check out the flows on the North Fork American River.

I found snow at the put-in and a rising river that will be more than ready to deliver solid class 4 whitewater that should easily last through May.

Middle Fork American is a wilderness rafting trip in California. We pull over onto the beach and make camp there. Peaceful and quiet, the canyon's only sound is our laughter.

W.E.T. River Trips has two wilderness trips on the American River: South Fork American and Middle Fork American Tunnel Chute run. Are you surprised that we said the South Fork? YES! Both rivers have a wilderness camp and both have an ambiance like no other.

Rafting for Groups

The calls are coming in requesting pricing for group rafting trips. The scouts, families, bachelors, companies and friends are calling for the yearly fix of whitewater rafting. We don't sell sorrow; medicine for illness or a service to make you lose weight. We don't sell drama; fixing your car after an accident or counseling you during a divorce. We don't sell a vice; providing you with tobacco, alcohol or gambling.

We sell joy, happiness and adventure. We sell a personal journey. Our trips make you feel good without compromising your beliefs, religion or way of life. You come to us to share a joyful time in your life. We provide the means to do just that safely.

Not many of us in business have this privilege of selling you a dream or personal challenge. The ski industry does that, whitewater rafting companies do that, and most of the adventure travel industry do that everyday somewhere on this earth. We are the lucky ones.

The profit margin is low, but the joy we feel when you share your words, your photos or your friends and family with us is the greatest reward that any company can receive. And, we want to thank you all for that. Now, here's to 2011 and a great whitewater rafting season!

W.E.T. will be on the water on March 4th / Friday. Both rivers will be available at that time; South Fork American and Class 4+ North Fork American Chamberlain Falls run. Come on out... wetsuits are on us!

Hola from WET in Chile!

wet guidesA sun-drenched morning after the latest storm brings a crystalline layer of moisture on the trees. I squinted my eyes against the radiance. The view was achingly beautiful. I do believe we will have an incredible California whitewater rafting season in 2011. The blessing does not escape me.

This morning, I received an email from the boys. The kayaking team is exploring the world and have started their own blog called, "Equipo Mas Profundo." Beautiful photos of rivers in Chile and the blog is a clear explanation why the place has become a top destination for adventure travelers. The rivers and waterfalls in South America are magnificent!

wet rafting guidesWith three Alex's, Johnny and Matt known respectively as Conejos, El Lobo Loco, La Ormiga, Cabra, and Parkito, the five-some are on a life journey in the wilds of Chile. You might remember Alex "El Lobo Loco" as the Red Cross's Hometown Hero from our earlier post.

This is a team to be reckoned with as they become "one" with the rivers down there. Many kayaking teams are there to conquer, but this whitewater kayaking team is a bit more zen. Ommmmm. They respect mother nature. They are there to flow with the river. They are not trying to conquer, but to pay homage. The river gods have spoken.

wet professional guidesOur entire staff, including the office, sit in awe of their antics. We wish them safe journey and god speed. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Joy to the World as these five see what few of us will ever experience. Take care and hurry back. WET waits for your return.

and now words from Alex "Conejos"

"Hope all is well in the worlds of WET. Wolf, Jon and myself all made it down to Chile with our gear and stuff, and we have been having a blast on some great rivers.

We all made it down to the town of Pucon just fine, running a few more rivers on the way, and driving around some giant volcanos. I hope all is well for you, we have been enjoying some great summer weather finally, after a few days of cold rain on the way down here. We ended up staying with a friend of Matt's who has one of the most amazing places I´ve ever been, with a view of the whole valley and the Vulcan Villarica out his front window. So we went from dirtbag survival camping to luxury lifestyle. I will try and get some pictures up on the blog soon so that everyone can enjoy some of the recent stuff, and the views of Pucon. Pucon is way more modern americana than anywhere else - it feels like Tahoe or Vail or something, but we are staying 25 min out of town in El Campo, so at least we don´t have to deal with all the turons.

wet kayaker
Ran the Rio Maichin yesterday which was really beatiful, and we are going to head up to the Palguin this afternoon for some Huck and Hope.

It is Wolf´s 28th birthday today, and as promised, I made him 28 pancakes from scratch this morning, which he demolished. I had to use strawberry ice cream syrup because they don´t seem to have maple syrup down here, not to mention spending half and hour trying to find baking powder in el supermacado (everything here comes in a bag or a Coca Cola bottle it seems).

Our BLOG is http://masprofundokayak.blogspot.com and we will update here and there so CHECK it out!
